Lamlash Golf Club

Championship final over 36 holes.

Saturday 20th July.

Todd Jameson V Paul Cowan.

Todd was defending the title for the 4th year in succession.

Paul was playing in his first ever Championship final.

In the afternoon game scoring was at times erratic due to the wind and fast greens making approach play and putting difficult. However, there were moments when their respective talents produced high quality golf. At the ninth the card records a shared hole in birdies- Todd drove the 350 yard hole with a three wood and Paul chipped close to secure his birdie.

Game through 9 was all square with just one shot between the players.

The back nine followed a similar pattern with 1 bogey and 8 pars result after 18 holes game square.

In the evening Paul started by winning the first, halved second in pars after finding the bunker second shot at third to within 2 yards of the pin to go 2 up. Lost 4th and fifth game all square again.

6th shared in birdie’s after Paul’s approach shot to within 1 foot and good putting by Todd.

At the 7th Todd went one up after driving the 285 yard hole, which he followed by 2 bogeys making the game all square at the turn.

At the 10th the hole was halved in par then Todd began a run of 3’s for 4 holes to edge in front by 3 holes.

Paul rallied by winning the next two after finding his ball within a few inches of the fence on the left of the 15th, making a remarkable birdie and good putting at the 16th from long range.

The match ended at the 35th hole in Todd’s favour after Paul hit a wayward drive and failed to get up and down.

The match attracted a good turnout of spectators with both players complimenting the condition of the course.
